Money transfers appeared not to identify the sponsor. Evidence of a name change and a careful financial reconciliation explained the apparent gap.
Immigration Appeal

The refusal questioned who had sent Mr. S.’s financial support. We connected the names in the records through evidence that the sponsor had changed his name on acquiring Spanish citizenship. The tribunal checked and accepted our financial analysis and allowed the appeal.
In this historical EEA family-permit matter, remittance records and bank statements did not appear to identify the sponsor consistently. The decision-maker was not satisfied that the money came from him.
The sponsor’s change of name explained the discrepancy. Other evidence concerned cash support, transfers and free accommodation.
The task was to turn apparently disconnected records into a verifiable account of identity and support. It required an explanation of the different names as well as an accurate reconciliation of the finances.
We used identity evidence to explain the sponsor’s name change.
We set out how the remittance and banking evidence fitted together.
Free accommodation formed part of the dependency analysis.
The appeal was determined on the documents and submissions despite the sponsor not attending to give evidence.
The tribunal allowed the appeal on 4 March 2022. It declined a fee award because the decisive clarification came later and considered the original refusal justified on the evidence then available.
The judgment left a separate post-Brexit permit issue unresolved. The allowed appeal does not, by itself, establish that a visa was subsequently issued.
A different name may need a documented explanation across every financial record.
A clear reconciliation lets the decision-maker test the analysis.
Evidence that wins an appeal may not have been available at the original decision.
